Quiz 3 Question 1

Wal-Mart has decided that it is going to reduce unhealthy aspects in its line of food products, and push its suppliers to do the same. It is also going to lower the prices of fresh fruits and vegetable. This is all in its attempt to promote healthy eating.
A political economy approach would discuss just how much power Wal-Mart has over the suppliers of the products. If the suppliers don't agree, Wal-Mart will simply not carry the product and the supplier's sales would drop dramatically. Wal-Mart is in a position of a lot of power over both the suppliers, and the consumers.
A cultural studies approach would focus on how this healthy eating promotion is affecting the consumers. It would ask how they respond and react, and if they allow the changes to influence their opinions of Wal-Mart in either the positive or negative direction.
